I use MagicJack as a second line and for sending and receiving faxes. I didn't have a problem with the original magicjack, but I recently purchased a magicjack plus which doesn't require a computer to function i.e. it's always on and available without firing up my PC.
When I installed the magicjack plus I got phone service (although on my two line phone I had to run two single line wires rather than the combined four line wire for lines 1 & 2 because I got a little crosstalk and noise). However, I couldn't send a fax. I could receive, but not send. I had the magicjack connected to the phone on line two and the fax connected to the phone's data port (also line two, but through the phone). However, this caused a voltage drop and the magicjack wouldn't function. I got voice, but no fax.
After connecting the network cable of the magicjack to the router, it's best to plug telephone cable of the magicjack plus directly into your fax machine to establish the line there. Then use the phone outlet on the fax machine for the voice. Most standard connections are probably that way anyway. But my phone had a switchable data port (line 1 or line 2) and I was trying to take advantage of that feature.
Oh one thing I forgot to mention, if your fax is in error correction mode (ECM), turn that off.
