This is the second Magic Jack Go that I purchased in one month. The first one lasted about two days when it overheated and fried my Ethernet switchbox. I returned it for a refund and bought a second one. This time it lasted about two to three weeks before it shorted out and killed my AT&T Fiber gateway/router/modem. I know it is the magic jack because I plugged it back into the new modem and every light on the modem went red! Luckily I unplugged it as soon as I saw the red lights! I will not purchase another magic jack device. Foolish me, when I first signed up my device I purchased the 5 year plan. I'm sure I will get some push-back from MagicJack to try purchasing another device, but after two instances of it damaging my home network system, I am through with it.
I noticed that the device gets really hot to the touch when running. The first device that died was plugged in to the electrical outlet with the supplied usb power adapter. With the second one I bought, I decided to not use that adapter and went with an Apple device adapter. I figured that it should be more successful. This time I used the extender for the usb adapter that came with the device to prevent any possible overheating to the magic-jack device. I was wrong. If anyone else out there has had issues with their devices, it would be interesting to hear about it. Thanks!
