Hi,
I've had my magicjack for about two months. For the first 1.5 months, I had it on a windows XP machine. The sound quality was decent enough, but I did have the "people can't hear me" problem. Even the lastest software update didn't help. My wife was getting pretty unhappy about it, so I thought I would try something else. I moved the magicjack over to my Vista machine. My Vista machine is also on a wireless network, but the XP machine was on a wired network. So, two changes.
On the Vista machine, everything seems to work well enough. People can hear me just fine. Unfortunately, I can't hear them very well. For the first five seconds or so, it's fine. Then, they start to drop-out, sort of like a skipping record or a bad cell-phone. So I can hear about half of the syllables they say. It is pretty hard to follow the conversation this way.
I just thought I would share this story, in case this sounds familiar to anyone. Thanks for creating these new, wicked-fast forums, btw. The old unofficial magicjack forums were far too slow.

sprintf32768,
I also thank you for technically bumping this topic back into existence.
This Nemesis belongs in the limelight. If we could find a reproducible cure for this item we would make a lot of MJ users very happy.
I personally have never had it happen to me so I have never had an opportunity to go looking for a cause. I don't know whether to be thankful or disappointed. But I sure would like to see this item put to rest.
So I will just plain old fashion ask anyone that has had anything even similar to this and cured it please post the nature of your volume problem, the direction of the low volume and what you did to cure or workaround it.

I have had about the same experience as sprint32768 here in Southern California with Verizon Fios Wireless and Vista Premium and I hope I have a cure. I have ordered a t5720 HP Thin Client from HolmanGT and when I get it, it will be dedicated to MagicJack. I will keep you posted when I get it going. I am told it will be plug and play so it shouldn’t take long.

As promised, here is my report on my "Holman" Thin Client. I have had the TC for about a week now and my computer life has returned to normal. I am to the point where i forget about a telephone because it is always there and it works flawlessly. I sincerely believe the TC is the way to go unless you enjoy tinkering. Every time I made a change on my computer before going to the TC I worried about how it would affect the Magic Jack because many times it would perform differently. It wasn't always my computer's fault because Magic Jack has some external forces working against it also from uncooperative phone companies. Never the less I have enjoyed a week without agravation and I am looking forward to many more. Even my wife has gotten off my case and that is a big bonus. Thanks to George Holman and all of the members of this and the "old" Forum. I hope you won't be hearing from me much anymore.

Hey everyone, I think I have really found something. I haven't used my MJ in a long time, principally because of the problems I encountered after redeploying it on my wifi network. But I think I've found the problem, and I want to share the solution with you. I set my wireless router to a "fixed transmission rate" of 18Mbs. I am sure that the router and my computer were constantly trying to figure out how fast they could get the connection to work -- up, down, up, down. All day long. That must have been fun for them. But as it turns out, 18Mbs works and is faster than my downstream! So let's just fix it there and see how things work. Now, when I am watching TV at hulu.com, the video does not jerk every now and then. And my magic jack test call sounded great. So, I feel like I've really hit upon something. I was reading "Voice Call Quality Using 802.11e On A Wireless Mesh Network by David Alexander van Geyn", where he mentioned doing the same thing to keep his wireless voip network from freaking out. From that paper: "The transmit rate of an 802.11 device is normally controlled automatically based on channel conditions. Preliminary testing showed that automatic rate setting, with a maximum of 54 Mbps, resulted in wildly unpredictable performance and extreme error spikes. A fixed rate setting of 11 Mbps provided a low error rate and consistent performance, while not being too slow to prohibit a voice call at a hop count of five on the mesh network."
