First of all, glad to see your new site - I wish you well with it. My question is - who should use the echo canceler file? I don't have any serious ongoing problems with MJ but have on a few occasions noticed echoing. Thanks Mike. Joe

Well, like me, I have not really had any problems with echo. I did once, and I was talking with HolmanGT on the phone at the time and he suggested opening up the headphone/phone tab on the softphone to check the settings. I did and it showed both of them a little high and he said to lower them to about ΒΌ of the way up from the start (left side) and my little echo went bye bye and the phone call quality (sans the echo) remained the same. As for the echo cancellation file, use it if you think you need to but I would try the lowering of the sliders first while on a call.

Just really depends on your setup, and what version of mJ you have. It can be hard to differentiate the different versions. I'd suggest that if you don't have consistent problems, there's no reason to try it. If you do have consistent echo problems, won't hurt to try it.
Also, be sure to check whether you get echo problems always calling the same person, or group of people. I've discovered that if I call my friend on Vonage (he won't switch, thinks my mJ is a toy), there is bad echo. He blames it on my mJ, and I blame it on Vonage. I don't have echo to anyone else...

Does this work on Vista systems ? It installs O.K. but when I click on enable it tells me to unplug and plug back in the MJ - still stays disabled ? - thanks

It is likely, if you're a new user of mJ, that you have the newer version of the hardware with the echo cancellation already built-in, which is why the software doesn't have the option enabled.
Are you actually having trouble with echo?

guyontheair - its more of a stutter - some of the time

Stutter is more likely a problem with the packets arriving in the right order or at the right time. If you're using a home router, you might want to see if you can give preference to the computer or packets with the mJ. And, you might try to not do any heavy uploading or downloaded while on the phone.

Here's a transcript of an email exchange between me and TJ Net:

Aug 21 (6 days ago) Hi, I've used your Echo Cancellation utility in the past with the MagicJack softphone service, and have had excellent results. However, now I can no longer find a link to download the file from your site. Could you send me the link to the download?
Thanks, Sam -------------------- Dr. Sing to me Aug 21 (6 days ago) MagicJack should have echo cancellation already

Thank you for your reply. However do you know if MagicJack's echo cancellation is hardware-based or software-based? You see, I'm still using the original version of the MagicJack hardware and I'm afraid that I might need a separate echo canceling utility.

I have downloaded the echo canceler file and installed it. Have also lowered the volume/headset control and am still getting an echo. Any suggestions? Thanks. magicjackjoe
