First off, thank you Mike for this forum.
I am one of MagicJack's initial group of first customers having had my account for over a year now. I'll be the first to admit that the service has vastly improved since the early beta days. The downfall of SunRocket (remember them?) caused me to look for a VOIP alternative. To this day, I don't understand how MagicJack can provide this service for 20 bucks a year.
My service has been sporadic at best. I have gone to an extreme to have a dedicated computer (XP Pro, 2GB SDRAM) run MagicJack. I have tested my Internet service with several tools and servers. Quality if service and upload/download speeds are stellar. When it works, it works great. Voice quality is right up there with POTS. However there are times when the service simply is unacceptable (choppy, echo, calls will not go through, incoming calls will not ring, etc.). Anyone that has dealt with their technical support knows that it’s a complete joke.
I remember reading in other forums (the other unofficial one, and dslreports) about switching from one MagicJack server to another. Has anyone had any success with this? I am envious of those that have not encountered any problems with their service.

You're welcome....... I have never "switched servers" myself for 98% of the time, my MJ has worked flawlessly. Tho, if memory serves me correctly, I have seen that others (on that "other" board) have had success, at least that is what they say. There have been times that a call was not up to par, but that has happened with the Ma Bells too. If I encounter a crappy call, I usually just hang up and re-try which normally works for me. As far as MJ being able to make a success out of the meager $20 a year, I do suspect that that price will not remain, but when it comes to the point that it gets near to matching what I would pay a Ma Bell outfit, then I might as well pay Ma Bell but will balk at that since the Ma Bell companies charge you that involuntary "help the needy have a phone" tax which was the main reason I went with MJ. And yes, that is the reason I gave them when I called to sever my Ma Bell phone service.
